Inverted Triads

Inverted Triads

Definition

An Inverted Triad simply means that the bottom/lowest note of the chord is not the name of the chord. For example: “ C First Inversion” is the notes: E, G and C from bottom to top. Notice we still have the 3 original notes of C major triad but E is now the lowest note. Similarly, “C Second Inversion“ is the notes; G, C and E from bottom to top.

Importance

Inverted chords give us a different sound and also minimize jumping-around hand movements that create more logical and smoother chord progressions. Below I’ve arranged Misty with many inverted triads.
